Solving the Credit Barriers to Scaling Clean Energy Procurement

Workshop
LL20 A

Growth in voluntary clean energy procurement is currently stymied by a lack of credit access. Many energy customers cannot access virtual power purchase agreements or other clean energy procurement mechanisms because they have no- or low-credit ratings. In fact, only 23 percent of the most mature U.S.-listed companies have sufficient credit ratings to support the development of large-scale offsite clean energy projects. In this workshop, we'll frame the issue and engage with attendees to unpack this challenge and identify potential paths forward.

Green Tariffs: Benefits and Opportunities for Energy Customers and Utilities

Interactives
LL20A

Green tariffs and other utility-offered clean energy programs can be an option for energy customers to help meet their demand for impactful clean electricity, particularly in regions with regulated electricity markets. In this session, leading buyers and utilities will share what has made existing green tariff programs successful for both parties. Participants will come away with an increased understanding of where these programs are available, elements that have made the programs attractive to customers, important questions for customers to ask their utility, and how utility/customer partnerships can help meet the needs of customers to access clean energy that is cost-effective, available to customers with smaller loads, drives local benefits and decarbonizes the grid.

Sponsored: Clean Power by the Hour: Iron Mountain’s Path to 100% Carbon-Free Energy

Breakout
Room LL21E

Like many companies, Iron Mountain is setting ambitious carbon reduction goals to support the effort to combat climate change. As a leading operator of a global data center portfolio, this means a focus on decarbonizing electricity consumption by powering Iron Mountain facilities with 24/7 carbon-free energy. The company has already launched an industry-leading product that enables clients to claim the benefits of Iron Mountain’s renewable energy purchases, and taking this to the next level with hourly granularity is the ultimate step for client decarbonization. However, Iron Mountain discovered early in this journey that the data necessary to achieve 24/7 carbon free energy can be difficult to obtain and time-consuming to analyze.

In this session, learn how Iron Mountain is sourcing clean energy for its data centers and matching that energy to consumption every hour; using hourly carbon accounting to get an accurate, auditable picture of its carbon footprint and progress on renewable energy--progress the company can share with its customers

This session is sponsored by Cleartrace. Sponsored breakouts are sponsor-created and hosted breakouts, created independently by the sponsor without input from GreenBiz. Please note that attendee contact information will be shared with the sponsoring company.
