Sustainability Programs
Tree Planting
We are teaming up with One Tree Planted to plant 10,000 trees on behalf of our attendees! The reforestation project will take place in the Lôh-Djiboua region of Côte d'Ivoire, working with more than 18 locally-owned tree nurseries. While cocoa farms have created an important economic impact for local communities, they have also been a major cause of deforestation and soil degradation in Côte d'Ivoire's forests. This project seeks to bring trees back to cocoa farms to establish sustainable agroforestry that benefits soil, biodiversity, community well-being, and climate for years to come.
Carbon Reduction
We are working with Watershed, our exclusive Net Zero Partner, to build a net zero carbon program for VERGE 21 and all GreenBiz events. Watershed is a software platform that helps companies measure their carbon impact, aggressively reduce emissions, and remove whatever carbon remains. Watershed also works with companies like Shopify, Stripe, Airbnb, DoorDash, Sweetgreen, and Square to run their climate programs.
Plastic Credits
We’re partnering with rePurpose Global to collect and remove 100 nature-bound plastic pouches from the environment for every VERGE 21 attendee. Low-value waste will be collected, processed, and reused at a rePurpose Impact project in Colombia, by the Association of Recyclers, Bogota that empowers waste pickers to tackle plastic waste.
rePurpose Global is the world's leading Plastic Action Platform dedicated to reducing waste, reviving lives, and restoring nature's balance. Today, they are a movement of conscious consumers and businesses taking action on their plastic footprint by empowering innovators on the frontlines of tackling nature-bound plastic waste worldwide.
Carbon Offsets
We’re partnering with Natural Capital Partners to deliver a high quality offsetting program for VERGE 21. We’ll calculate the emissions of all our attendees for the four day event based on the average individual emissions of the country they are based in. Natural Capital Partners will then offset those emissions through independently verified projects, delivering critical finance to the global transformation to a low carbon economy. And these projects don’t just reduce emissions, they also conserve and restore biodiversity, improve health and livelihoods, and support adaptation for some of the communities most impacted by climate change, yet least responsible.
