VERGE Microgrid

Since 2013, VERGE events have utilized 100% renewably-powered microgrids to help power our live events. Each microgrid is built on-site using a combination of off-the-shelf components from startups and leading solution providers.

Tours will be available throughout the event to learn about the interoperability, resilience and radical efficiency of these technology solutions available today.

VERGE Microgrid Components Include:

Ageto Renewable Controller

The Ageto Renewable Controller (ARC) bridges the gap between renewable and conventional power generation resources by coordinating and dispatching the various energy resources available in the microgrid to maximize renewable energy penetration while ensuring a stable and resilient power system.

Energport Battery Storage

The Energport line of indoor commercial & industrial energy storage systems provides a fully integrated, turnkey energy storage solution. Leveraging lithium iron phosphate batteries utilized in hundreds of thousands of electric vehicles, Energport’s solution provides unparalleled degrees of safety and reliability. An integrated inverter provides for plug and play functionality, removing implementation burden and reducing installation costs.

All Power Labs Biomass Gasifier

The All Power Labs PP30 is a biomass gasifier genset. What this essentially means is that it is a refinery connected to a generator set, where the refinery takes biomass as its crude feedstock, and refines it into a clean burning gas that the genset consumes. Biomass gasification was invented in the late 1800's and came to prominence during World War II, when many civilians resorted to using gasifiers to power their vehicles and farm tractors due to all of the petroleum being reserved for the war effort. Nowadays, gasification has found a better application: the generation of renewable energy from biomass waste—such as nut shells from the nut industry, and wood chips from forestry management and lumber off-cuts. After all, biomass is essentially stored solar energy produced by a plant.

Volta EV Charging

Volta is changing the dynamic of mobility infrastructure. Volta Charging has developed the country’s most utilized electric vehicle (EV) charging network. By installing chargers in high-traffic locations in top media markets and partnering with brands to sponsor the service, Volta EV chargers are available to both drivers and real estate hosts free of cost. Volta also works closely with municipalities and industry groups with a stated commitment to emissions reduction. Volta currently operates citywide EV charging networks in more than 50 municipalities. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in New York City.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Bolt EV is a game-changing electric vehicle that delivers 238 miles of range on a single charge and breaks the affordability barrier with a starting MSRP of $37,495 (before Federal and State tax credits)

Envision Solar EV ARC Charger

Envision Solar’s patented EV ARC™ is the world’s only rapidly deployable, scalable and permanent solar-powered electric vehicle charging product. The system is completely grid independent, allowing easy and fast deployment in minutes with no construction necessary. Our technology can be utilized day or night, rain or shine. The unit’s onboard battery storage provides a source of emergency power in the event of an electrical outage.

Our zero-emission technology provides 100% clean renewable electricity, allowing you to drive on nothing but sunshine.

FreeWire Technologies Mobi Charger

Mobi Charger is a powerful battery-integrated electric vehicle charger that can be easily set up without costly construction or permitting. It allows for EV charging to be hosted on any site regardless of grid limitations. The charger is equipped with FreeWire's AMP software platform for advanced asset and energy management. FreeWire offers options for Level 2 and DC Fast Charging.

ASU's Mobile Microgrid Training Platform

ASU has developed a mobile 14-foot training platform containing a 10 kW generator, 4.5 kW of solar PV, a 7 kW inverter and microgrid controller, and 9.6 kWh of battery storage. The system is used for multiple training offerings around the United States.  The design by ASU includes breakers and transfer switches that quickly enable alternative microgrid configurations including solar-storage, solar-generator, generator storage, solar-generator-storage, grid-solar, grid-storage, grid-solar-storage, and grid-generator-solar storage.  The Mobile Microgrid Training Platform includes a detailed lesson plan and supporting experiments.

Proterra Catalyst Electric Bus

Proterra is rapidly reinventing the transit industry with Catalyst® battery-electric vehicles. Communities across North America have already put these high-performance buses to the test through more than 6 million miles of service. Designed from the start as an exclusively electric vehicle, the Catalyst delivers exceptional route flexibility and proven operational performance, with the greatest range of any zero-emission, battery-electric bus in its class. Made with an advanced carbon-fiber-reinforced body and the market’s highest-efficiency electric drivetrain, the Catalyst bus is designed to safely and quietly endure nearly two decades of on-road service, with minimal maintenance required.  Sign-up to try the VERGE 18 Proterra Shuttle
