From the US to India, Brazil, and the UK, a polarizing political climate fueled by misinformation, fake news, and aggression is becoming a critical turning point for our society as people lose trust in democracy and institutions. We believe that deep and interconnected structural factors related to income inequality, demographic change, and more, are at play and as sustainability professionals, understanding the implications of nationalism and contributing trends will be critical to making any progress in the years to come. Forum for the Future will lead this roundtable and draw upon their research on nationalism and rising polarization conducted over the past two years. Come and join a discussion on how environmental issues, international agreements, and sustainability initiatives are impacted by a polarized world, and what we as sustainability professionals and leading companies could do about it.
