Sustainability Programs
Tree Planting
We are teaming up with One Tree Planted to plant 8,000 trees on behalf of our attendees! These trees will benefit a reforestation project in Romania, in the Fagaras Mountains of the southern Carpathians. The Carpathians were once well-forested, but were clear-felled between 2005 and 2015 without being replanted. Reforesting this region densely with native species will provide habitat for biodiversity, and nursery and forestry jobs for local communities. The European Union is the second largest exporter of textiles in the world, so this project will help give back to those affected by a volatile textile industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carbon Offsets
We’re partnering with Natural Capital Partners to deliver a high quality offsetting program for Circularity 21. We’ll calculate the emissions of all our attendees for the three day event based on the average individual emissions of the country they are based in. Natural Capital Partners will then offset those emissions through independently verified projects, delivering critical finance to the global transformation to a low carbon economy. And these projects don’t just reduce emissions, they also conserve and restore biodiversity, improve health and livelihoods, and support adaptation for some of the communities most impacted by climate change, yet least responsible.
Plastic Credits
We’re partnering with rePurpose Global to collect and remove 100 nature-bound plastic pouches from the environment for every Circularity 21 attendee. Low-value waste will be collected, processed, and reused by EcoWorks - a waste management service in Colombia that empowers waste pickers to tackle plastic waste.
rePurpose Global is the World's First Plastic Credit Platform dedicated to reducing waste, reviving lives, and restoring nature's balance. Today, they are a movement of conscious consumers and businesses taking action on their plastic footprint by empowering innovators on the frontlines of tackling ocean plastic pollution and restoring the health of humanity's common habitat.
Water Restoration
We will symbolically balance Circularity 21's water footprint with the help of Bonneville Environmental Foundation and Change the Course, restoring approximately 820,000 gallons of freshwater to critically dewatered rivers and streams. The Change the Course campaign is a national water initiative founded by BEF, National Geographic, and Participant Media. The initiative engages the public and the business community in reducing water footprints and returning water to nature. For every personal pledge to conserve, Change the Course returns 1,000 gallons to rivers and wetlands in need. Change the Course partners with on-the-ground conservation groups to fund innovative restoration projects that restore water and enhance water security.
