Lau President and Chief Executive Officer Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI) Connie Lau chairs the boards of HEI’s principal subsidiaries, Hawaiian Electric Company and American Savings Bank. In 2008, along with the Governor of Hawaii, Ms. Lau signed the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative which led to Hawaii adopting a 40% renewable portfolio standard (RPS) by 2030, considered then the most aggressive RPS goal in the nation. In 2015, Hawaii raised that standard to 100% RPS by 2045. Hawaiian Electric is a national leader in renewable power integration, having achieved an RPS of 26% in 2016 and successfully integrated private solar into the grid for more than 15% of its customers – including 26% of those with single-family homes. Appointed by President Barack Obama in 2012, Ms. Lau chairs the National Infrastructure Advisory Council which advises the White House on the security of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors and their information systems, and is a member of the Electric Sector Coordinating Council. In 2014, Ms. Lau was named a C3E Clean Energy Ambassador by the U. S. Department of Energy and in 2011, Woman of the Year by the Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment. In 2013, Ms. Lau received the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) 100 Award and was one of U.S. Banker’s 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking for 2004, 2005 and 2006 when she was CEO of American Savings Bank. Ms. Lau is on the board of Edison Electric Institute, Associated Electrical & Gas Insurance Services, Matson, Inc., Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, Punahou School and Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation, and is an advisory board member for the Energy Excelerator and GE Ecomagination.
